What We Believe

"...that in all things He may have the preeminence"

Colossians 1:18

In brief, you should know the following about us: the gathering of redeemed saints at Edmonds Lane was established in 1995 and has been serving many in truth and love ever since.  Our meetings are based on New Testament principles for church doctrine and practice.  See what we believe below to eliminate any doubts or heresies.

The Bible: The Holy Bible containing 66 books is God’s written revelation to man, inspired equally in all parts and verbally inspired in every word, absolutely inerrant in the original documents.  The Bible constitutes the only infallible rule and authority in all areas of faith and practice.  It is sufficient for all matters pertaining to life and godliness.

God: There is but one living and true God, an infinite, unchangeable, all-knowing Spirit, perfect in all His attributes, one in essence, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  These three are one God having precisely the same nature, essence and perfections.  God is the Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer of His creation

The Lord Jesus Christ: God manifest in the flesh, conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.  Jesus perfectly revealed the Father and identified Himself completely with mankind yet without sin.  The absolutely sinless, perfect Son of God represents humanity and deity in indivisible oneness.  The Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through the shedding of His blood and sacrificial death on the cross.  His death was voluntary, vicarious, substitutionary, propitiatory and redemptive.  Our justification is made sure by his literal, physical, bodily resurrection from the dead and that He is ascended to the right hand of the Father, where He know mediates as our Advocate and High priest.  He will return to receive the church at the rapture and, returning with His church in glory, will establish His Millennial kingdom on earth.

The Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is a divine person, eternal, underived, possessing all the attributes of personality and deity.  In all the divine attributes He is coequal with the Father and the Son.   The unique work of the Holy Spirit in this age began on the day of Pentecost when He came from the Father to initiate and complete the building of the body of Christ (church).  He is the sovereign agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ.  Every believer possesses the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit from the moment of salvation and it is the duty of all believers to be filled with the Spirit.  The Holy Spirit sanctifies, instructs, anoints, empowers for service, and seals the believers unto the day of redemption.  He administers spiritual gifts to the church.

Man: Man was created by God, free of sin with a rational nature, intelligence, volition, self-determination and moral responsibility.  Being fallen in Adam, the human race is under the condemnation of God and liable to eternal judgment and death; and being dead in sins, man is hopelessly lost, unable to save himself from this dreadful state except through the unmerited grace of God through the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Salvation: Salvation is wholly of God by grace through faith, on the basis of the redemption of Jesus Christ, the merit of His shed blood and not on the basis of human merit or works.  Jesus Christ is the only Savior of mankind and the salvation He offers is eternally secure and free.

The Church:  The church is the body of Christ which began on the day of Pentecost and which will be completed at the rapture.  The church is a unique spiritual organism, made up of all born-again believers in this present age.  The Lord Jesus Christ is the one and only Head and supreme authority of the church.

The Blessed Hope and Second Coming:  According to the Scriptures, the next great event in the fulfillment of prophecy will be the personal, bodily return of our Lord Jesus Christ in the air to receive His church to Himself.  This is the blessed hope of the church.  The translation of the church will be followed by the Tribulation period and it will be climaxed by the return of Christ to earth with His church in power and glory to establish His Millennial reign.

The Eternal State: At death the spirits of those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, pass immediately into His glorious presence and there remain in conscious bliss until the day of resurrection when Christ comes for His own, where upon spirit and body (glorified) reunited shall be with Him forever in glory.  But the spirit of the unbelieving remain after death, conscious of condemnation and misery until the final judgment of the Great White Throne at the close of the Millennium, when spirit and body reunited shall be cast into the lake of fire to be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power.

Ordinances:  There are only two ordinances of the church, namely baptism by immersion administered to born again believers and observance of the Lords Supper.

Tongues: Instantaneous speaking in unlearned tongues was given to the early church as a foundational gift to communicate the Word of God and ceased to exist after the full revelation of the Word of God.  Today God speaks to mankind only through His completed written Word
